So Doug and I went on a 10 day vacation to Shasta. We had a blast, but when we came home, the homecoming wasn't what we were expecting. I have an odd fear of flying, so I had anxiety the whole flight. I ended up sitting in front of a kicking child who picked my seat to kick, and in front of us was an old couple who smelled like they had not seen a shower in months. I could not wait to get off that flight. When we landed, I receive a text message from my brother saying he had to take my mom into the ER due to complications with a surgery she had had a few weeks prior. We went directly to the ER and spent time with my mom. I planned on staying there that night with her, so we went home to drop off our suitcases and pack a small bag for an overnight hospital stay. When we got home, our ceiling had broken through and water was spilling into the apartment. Mold was making it's way up from the floor and onto my personal items like my art board, art work, notebooks and personal journals. It was the worst surprise we could come home to. Our shower was infested with spiders that I can only assume found their way through the hole in our ceiling. It was a rough week back to reality after a great vacation, but we will always have the memories of living in a ridiculously cheap apartment as a newly wed couple!
They used our personal towels and bucket to clean the mess.
MOLD!
Mold growing under the carpet, onto the cement. Don't worry though, the landlord took a mold class and determined this was not the kind of mold that could hurt us. Thank goodness for mold classes and awesome landlords... ugh.
